Where are you located?

posted Jun 8, 2009 7:25 PM by The English Cottage   [ updated Jun 8, 2009 7:31 PM ]

Well, short answer? Nowhere.

Long answer? We currently are not located anywhere because the "owner" is still in school and has yet to actually make the money to open up in any location. However, when funds and time are found we will open up. Chances are the location will be in the New England area, so if you live there or are planning on living there within the next five years, you can look forward to The English Cottage either being in your neighborhood or within an easily travelable distance from your neighborhood.

So, medium length answer? We'll be located somewhere in New England in the next five years.

Do you serve coffee? How about lattés and frappes?

We will be serving coffee. We will not be serving lattés, frappes, cappachinos, espressos, or any other type of fancy coffee though.

Why?

Simple enough. We're not coffee people. Should we hire someone who knows how to work an espresso machine (or whatever you call those giant coffee things you find in a Starbucks), maybe we'll move up to steamers and lattés and frappes. But in the mean time we know more about brewing tea than we do about anything else. Should I personally learn how to use one of those café machines myself, of course the answer will change. But, like I said, not as the plan currently states.

Should the plan go into effect the way we would like we might move up to flavored coffees via the multi-cup Keurig. But that's only if Keurig gets a multi-cup version we can use. And, of course, if we can get reusable K-cups in bulk. We have a green motto for a reason.

What types of tea do you serve?

Ah, this is the question of the hour, is it not?

As we are not technically open yet (or as far as we know, any time soon), we have yet to fully answer this question for ourselves. However, we do have this much planned:
We will be serving black, green, white, and herbal teas.

Beyond that all we can really say is that we hope to be serving Whittard of Chelsea teas, but should that not work out, we will serve any tea company we can possibly get our hands on- the more British, the better because we are after all, the English Cottage.

What's the difference between loose-leaf and timed tea?

posted Jun 8, 2009 5:43 PM by The English Cottage   [ updated Jun 8, 2009 5:50 PM ]

These are options that come with ordering a full pot of tea. Because we try to be open to how many different people like their tea, we serve tea both ways.

Loose-leaf tea is when we put the appropriate number of teaspoons of tea directly into the hot water. When served, a tea strainer placed over your tea cup will prevent the tea leaves from entering your tea cup. This is a traditional way to serve tea, though it often means that as the tea pot sits, the tea gets significantly stronger. However, if you plan to delve into tea leaf reading, this may be the way to go.

We also serve tea timed. We place the correct amount of tea in a pot strainer and time the tea to your preference (light, medium, or strong). Then we bring the tea out to you. While you will have to wait a bit for your tea, it guarantees that the only thing that happens to your tea as it sits in front of you is that it may get cold. (But that's what tea cozies are for.)
